Dallas Cowboys Analysis
Offense
The Dallas Cowboys are perhaps the most popular NFL team, and they are making their fans around the world very happy with their 12-4 record. This team is good, and the Dallas Cowboys stats will prove just that. If you like offense, you are going to be in for a show come Sunday.
Dallas scores 28.8 points per game, which is the second most in all of football. You would not have seen that one coming after they started the season off 0-1 while scoring just three points.
This offense has found itself as of late, and this is without Odell Beckham Jr., who the entire world thought was going to sign there. Much of the credit goes to the duo in the backfield of Zeke Elliot and Tony Pollard, alongside Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
This NFC East game is one of the most important NFL matchups this week. Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles (13-3) are competing to see who wins the division and who gets to stay out of the Wild Card Weekend. The NFL team standings are more important than ever as we enter Week 18.
Defense
We know the Dallas Cowboys can score, but the reason this team is so legit is due to their defense. Led by potential Defensive Player of the Year Micah Parsons, quarterbacks are not too fond of going up against this defense. The Cowboy’s defense may have taken a backseat in the last couple of weeks, but they are still a very potent bunch.
Dallas makes their money off forcing turnovers. They lead all other NFL team stats in forced turnovers at 32. That is exactly two turnovers per game, which is incredible. Daron Bland leads the way in terms of NFL player stats for this team with five interceptions.
You would expect more, but the Cowboys’ defense is so balanced. This defense puts this offense in great positions to score. You know what they say, the best offense is a good defense.
Washington Commanders Analysis
Offense
It has been such an up-and-down season in the Nation’s capital. Just look at the Washington Commanders schedule for validation. After starting off the year 1-4, they turned things around at 7-5 heading into Week 13 against the New York Giants. It seemed like the Commanders would make the playoffs easily, but they have not won a game since November 27.
That offensive outburst that led to win after win goes back to Taylor Heinicke. Caron Wentz was the go-to guy before suffering an injury, and Heinicke came in and turned the ship around. It finally seemed like Terry McLaurin was being utilized the way he needed to be.
With Curtis Samuel and Brian Robinson Jr. on offense, they are not a team to take lightly. In Week 18, the Commanders will be starting rookie quarterback Sam Howell.
Defense
Usually, the NFC East is all about defense, and that reigns true for the Washington Commanders. The only issue, however, is the NFL injury report has not been too friendly for this team.
Washington has been all over the news in terms of a potential sale of the team or the need for a new stadium, and you have to feel for the players. In Week 18, they will play their final home game of the season.
The Cowboys vs Commanders best bets will all be determined by the defense. This Washington defense is incredible. They have one of the best fronts in all of football.
The spotlight goes to guys like Chase Young, Montez Sweat, and Jonathan Allen, but Washington allows the fourth-fewest passing yards in the NFL. A lot of the credit goes to a secondary that is not credited as much as it should be.
An interesting theme to look at is the difference in turnovers in this game. The Commanders are one of the worst teams when it comes to takeaways, and as we previously mentioned, that is the Dallas Cowboys’ cup of tea. Washington only has 14 turnovers, which is the 29th worst in the entire league.
NFL Stats and Standings
If the season ended today, the Dallas Cowboys would be the No. 5 seed in the NFC, and the Washington Commanders would miss out on the playoffs. Dallas has already clinched the postseason but is looking to capture the NFC East title to avoid playing in the Wild Card weekend.
Washington was eliminated from playoff contention after their loss last week to the Cleveland Browns. They have lost three straight games and also suffered a tie against the New York Giants.
We have already discussed some of the on-field stats, but now we need to look at the NFL picks against the spread. The Cowboys are very good against the spread at 9-6-1 and 8-7 in the over/under.
They have the second-best record against the spread in the NFC East, behind the excellent New York Giants, who have covered the spread 12 times. Dallas games have gone over in five of their last six games.
When it comes to NFL point spreads, the Commanders are not necessarily good or bad. They are 7-8-1, which puts them with the worst record in a very good NFC East. The big issue for this team is their 5-10 record in the over/under.
Washington has not covered the spread in their last four games and has only hit the over once since November 14. Note that down when finalizing your Cowboys vs Commanders best bets.
