The third major of the 2023 season is closing in, and in less than a week the best golfers in the world will be teeing it up at the Los Angeles Country Club for the 2023 U.S. Open. The 123rd edition of the event will take place on the North Course of the property. It marks the first time a major championship will be held at the venue. Tournament play begins on Thursday, June 15th and ends on Sunday, June 18th.
As we gear up for what will be a brutal test for players, we take a deep dive into some of our favorite golf odds and lay out our favorite golf picks leading up to the major. Look for US Open player prop odds to come out the week of the tournament.
What is a US Open Player Props?
If you are new to golf gambling, many sportsbooks offer numerous ways to bet on the tournament outside of picking the winning golfer. A player prop is considered a side bet on an individual within the golf events. An example of a US Open player props might be:
- Scottie Scheffler to Finish T10 or better (+160)
In this instance, the bettor is placing a sum of money on Scottie Scheffler to finish inside the top 10 at the end of the tournament. The golf odds example comes with a +160 payout, so if you wager $100 dollars and he finishes inside the top 10, you win $260 (your $100 wager plus $160).
As a bettor, it is always important to not get overwhelmed with the amount of US Open player props bets you’ll be able to choose. Always remember to keep tabs on any bets you place.

What to Look for Before Wagering
Los Angeles Country Club is a new venue, and there is no course history with the property to help us make our decisions upfront. In these situations, it is always key to look at golfers who are trending in the right direction. You can try to find other courses that are similar to LACC’s design that have hosted past tournaments.
Regardless of the course, history tells us how the USGA wants the U.S. Open to play, and the governing body wants the winning score to be as close to par as possible. Driving distance and accuracy off the tee will be pertinent, along with precise approach shots and prowess around the greens. Par is never a bad score in this tournament. So bogey avoidance and scrambling are also key golf stats you want to look at before placing your U.S. Open player props.
Players to Watch
The pre-tournament golf odds for the U.S. Open has been out for some time, and it comes as no surprise that the top two players in the world, Scheffler (+750) and Jon Rahm (+1000), headline the favorites.
Scheffler has been one of the best golf players on Tour this season and is riding a streak of 16-straight finishes of T15 or better. His only weakness is his putter, but if the 26-year-old gets the flatstrick rolling, watch out.
The group of players down the list at +3500, Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Young, is an interesting trio and three players to watch. Finau and Young are good candidates to pick up their first major title at LACC, while DJ has had historical success at this major with one win and six T10 finishes.
The cream typically rises to the top at major tournaments, so don’t be surprised if the winner comes from the first page of the odds board. If there was one dark horse to watch, don’t be surprised if California native Sahith Theegala finds himself in contention on Sunday.
