New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals Betting Preview
New York Mets Preview
The Mets got a double dose of good news this weekend, one on the field and one off of it. On Saturday, Max Scherzer became the first Mets hurler to go seven innings this Spring in a 2-0 win over the Astros. One of the club’s big-time aces threw just 81 pitches, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. He personified mid-season dominance but admitted there was still work to be done.
Off the field, the team breathed a sigh of relief when looking at the MLB injury report as Brandon Nimmo revealed that his awkward-looking slide on Friday wouldn’t threaten much of the beginning of his season.
“I was relieved that it wasn’t more serious,” Nimmo said before Sunday’s game against the Cardinals at Clover Park. “We are not looking at structural damage; just kind of sprains in there. To me, that was the best news we could have received. Just how awkward the play was, catching that cleat, a lot of things could have gone wrong. I’m fortunate we dodged a bullet.”
The score of the New York Mets game on Friday was 6-1 in their favor. We noted how they won 2-0 the next night, but then on Sunday, they fell to the Cardinals 8-7.
Washington Nationals Preview
Looking at the Washington Nationals standings, they’re right in the middle of the pack at 10-9, sitting a full three games back of St. Louis with eight MLB games to go in their spring slate, ending a week from tomorrow.
Going back to last Monday, the Nats are 5-1 over their last six games, beating the Tigers on Sunday in a 2-1 affair. That win was highlighted by Chad Kuhl’s performance on the mound, going five strong innings in the win, giving up just four hits. His showing may have put him in the driver’s seat to fill the final spot in Washington’s rotation after Cade Cavalli went down with a season-ending injury.

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals Betting Picks
This game will feature a pitching matchup between New York’s Justin Verlander and the Nationals’ Patrick Corbin. Corbin struggled mightily last season, while Verlander has looked strong since signing with the Mets.
Look for New York’s other ace to try to match Scherzer’s weekend effort and go for his longest outing of the preseason as the Mets get back in the win column against their NL East rival.
- Pick: Mets ML (-165)
