Selection Sunday is always one of the biggest days on the sports calendar, and the March Madness brackets have now been set for the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. There will be 68 teams competing for a chance to cut down the nets, and this version of the tournament is expected to be unpredictable.
Now that the bracket has been unveiled, it’s time to start putting together some NCAAB Tournament insights and checking out the NCAAB betting odds. There were once again some teams that were left out, but the field of 68 went as most predicted.
Here is a look at some of the biggest stories from Selection Sunday, and what could happen throughout the month of March on the scores and odds.
A Look at the Top
The first place to start when putting together NCAAB Tournament insights is to check out the four teams that were awarded the number one seeds. There are some years in which the March Madness odds for this award are tight, but that wasn’t the case.
The UConn Huskies were awarded the top overall seed for the NCAA Tournament, and they were a worthy selection. Many of the other top teams faltered throughout the week, and that was evident when checking out the college basketball scores.
Three other number-one seeds were handed out, and those went to the Houston Cougars, Purdue Boilermakers, and North Carolina Tar Heels. All of those teams have been at the top of the college basketball standings all season long, and they will now look to win six more games to be able to cut down the nets.
Bubbles Were Popped
Teams work hard to put together a college basketball schedule that will not only give them a chance to win college basketball games but one that will also give them a chance to build a great resume. The college basketball injury report impacts some teams along the way, but there were only about 75 deserving teams this season.
There were a couple of NCAA basketball teams that had their hopes shattered on Selection Sunday, and the Oklahoma Sooners were the first team left out of the field. Indiana State, Providence, and Seton Hall were the other three teams that just missed the cut.
On the other side of that coin, four teams just snuck into the field, and now they are going to have to win games in Dayton to make the field of 64. Those four teams were the Colorado Buffaloes, Colorado State Rams, Boise State Broncos, and Virginia Cavaliers.
None of these teams are going to have great odds to win March Madness, but these four teams are at least going to have a shot to get that done. One team from the First Four typically goes on a run each year, and that’s what these teams are going to be looking to do.
A Look at the Odds
When making NCAAB Tournament insights, it’s important to take a look at the betting odds as well. Making college basketball picks is an extremely big part of the NCAA Tournament, and it’s also a great option to make some future bets.
The UConn Huskies have some of the best college basketball players in the country, and they have odds set at +425 to win the NCAA Tournament. UConn did win the title a season ago, and it’s not easy to win March Madness two years in a row.
There are going to be a ton of teams that are looking to knock off the Huskies, and betting odds have been set for those teams as well. Here is a look at some of the other NCAAB odds that you are going to find:
- Houston +500
- Purdue +600
- North Carolina +1400
- Tennessee +1500
- Arizona +1600
- Auburn +1800
- Iowa State +2000
- Kentucky +2200
- Marquette +2500
- Creighton +2500
- Illinois +3000
- Duke +3000
There are going to be even more odds to check out, but these are the teams that realistically seem to have a shot to win the national championship.
