Virginia Tech Hokies and the West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview
The Virginia Tech Hokies and the West Virginia Mountaineers are set to do battle this upcoming Saturday. The Hokies sit at 2-0 on the season after a win against North Carolina and a blowout victory over Middle Tennessee State. West Virginia is 1-1 this season, and they hold a win over Long Island in blowout fashion and an opening loss to Maryland. The betting line for this game opened at 2.5 points in favor of West Virginia. The over/under for this game is set at 50.5 points.
Virginia Tech got their season off to a great start as they opened with a 17-10 win over North Carolina. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister threw for 169 yards and was just 12-of-19 but still led his team to the win. The defense was excellent for Virginia Tech as they forced Sam Howell, North Carolina’s Heisman hopeful, to throw three interceptions. The defense led them to their second win of the season as well as they coasted to a 35-14 win over Middle Tennessee State.
West Virginia started their year off with a loss to Maryland 30-24. They did not look very good in that contest, and quarterback Jarret Doege threw two interceptions. This was a significant loss for West Virginia, as an opening win would have been a huge momentum boost. West Virginia then beat down on Long Island 66-0 in a game where it seemed that they could do nothing wrong.
The game between these two schools is pivotal as Virginia Tech is looking to prove that they belong in an ACC race, and West Virginia wants to show that their first game this season was a fluke. West Virginia is averaging a gaudy 45 points a game this year, while Virginia Tech is only scoring 24 points a game. Defensively, Virginia Tech has allowed 12 points a game while West Virginia is allowing 15 points a contest.
This will be a good game either way, and I expect some points to be scored with these high-powered offenses. I think that Virginia Tech holds the advantage in this one, and I think that you would be able to get a lot of value out of hitting on the Moneyline for Virginia Tech. However, West Virginia is no slouch, and they could very well walk out of the game with the win and cover the spread.
It will likely come down to which Virginia Tech team shows up on Saturday afternoon. The defense was outstanding against North Carolina and was a little shaky at times against Middle Tennessee State. Offensively, they struggled against North Carolina and put it together against MTSU. If Virginia Tech can hold it together for this game on both sides of the ball, good things will happen, and they should run away with the win. If it doesn’t, then West Virginia should be able to win the game. The best value is putting a unit on Virginia Tech.
