The Miami Marlins standings are slipping a little bit as they look to curb a three-game losing streak in the third of four MLB games against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
It is difficult to do against one of the best MLB teams that has great pitching and a balanced lineup, but the reigning Cy Young winner, Sandy Alcantara, will try to salvage a game and cut in the Braves’ lead in the National League East MLB standings.
Here is a breakdown of each team, the starting pitchers, odds, and Marlins vs Braves picks.

Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Brave Betting Preview
The Marlins (12-12) have meshed a lineup of contact and speed in hopes of taking advantage of the new rules throughout the MLB schedule, but the pitching has not held up. Meanwhile, the Braves are 16-8, tied for second best record in the league, and have a +38 run differential, the fourth-best in baseball.
The new Marlins’ approach has not gotten off to a great start. They are second worst in scoring 3.21 runs per game, 16th with a .245 batting average, and 21st with a .684 OPS. Miami hopes to get last year’s AL batting champ Luis Arraez off the MLB injury report and into the lineup.
Their pitching has also suffered. The Marlins rank 19th in allowing 4.77 runs per game, 14th with a .242 batting average against, and 18th in allowing a .730 OPS. They hoped they had shored up the bullpen by acquiring A.J. Puk and Matt Barnes, but they haven’t had many late-game chances.
The Atlanta Braves score plenty of runs, ranking seventh with 5.19 per game and a .258 batting average. They are third with an OPS of .794. The pitching staff has been solid, ranking fourth in allowing 3.6 runs per game, 12th with a batting average against of .238, and sixth with an opposing OPS of .663.
Starting Pitchers
Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins)
Alcantara is 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA, but his FIP is 3.49, so expect his MLB player stats to improve rather quickly. That is one reason our Marlins vs Braves picks will swing toward Miami.
Bryce Elder (Atlanta Braves)
Elder has continued a great start to his career and is 2-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched.
Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Brave Picks and Predictions
The over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Atlanta. Though MLB picks show 60% of public bets are on the under, likely because of the pitching matchup. That appears to be a good call with Alcantara looking to limit a potent lineup and a Marlins team struggling to generate runs.
- Our Marlins vs Braves picks are Marlins +137.
Getting Alcantara as an underdog feels like stealing money, even if he had a rough start to the season. But FIP shows that he really is not pitching all that poorly, just that he has had some tough luck. He is good enough to limit the Braves’ lineup and give his team plenty of time to produce enough offense to get the rested bullpen a lead.
