The Netherlands is a top footballing nation with teams like Ajax Amsterdam, Feyenoord, and PSV Eindhoven, who have all been crowned UCL champions. When it comes to PSV stats, the big three have dominated the domestic league and extended their dominance on the continental stage, especially during the 80s and 90s.

PSV Eindhoven is one of the top teams in the Netherlands, and they continue to maintain their status as one of the top three teams with an exciting history. The team has won enough games to retain that status. Also, they would be participating in the UEFA Europa League this season, hoping to increase their trophy cabinet on the continental stage.

PSV Eindhoven General Info

PSV Eindhoven’s full name is Philips Sport Vereniging NV, a Dutch football club that has been around for more than a century. They’ve consistently played at the top of their talent and delivered excellence like no other in the league and across European competitions. PSV is an incredible team.

The team’s nicknames are Boeren, which translates to Peasants/Farmers, Lampen, meaning Lightbulbs, and Rood-Witten, translating to Red and Whites. They play at the Philips Station, a stadium with a 35,000 seating capacity, one of the biggest in the league. And for many years, the team has contested in the Dutch Eredivisie.

PSV Eindhoven History

The story started more than a century ago, in 1913 when the Philips company formed a football team to serve the need for activities with its employees. At first, the name was Philips Elftal, and they played their games at the Philips Sportpark.

However, the club failed because of financial issues and workers’ strikes, but in 1913, its successor was created, and this time, it was called Phillips Sport Vereniging, shortened to PSV. However, the name wasn’t officially switched to PSV until 1916. From there, the team enjoyed a relatively standard journey, competing at the highest level.

The team started winning titles and championships under different coaches, as shown by PSV stats. They even went on to win the UEFA Cup during the Van der Kuijen era. It got better for the team as they included the European Cup in their trophy cabinet during the Guus Hiddink era.

PSV Eindhoven Records

One thing we can’t take away from the team is their outstanding records. They’ve spent most of their winning championships and dominating the league with Ajaz and Feyenoord. The team has had an exciting history, and PSV stats remain one of the best in the Eredivisie throughout history.

They’ve won multiple league titles, only second behind Ajax, the most fantastic football club in the Netherlands. Aside from winning the league on many occasions, they’ve also won the KNVB Cup and Johan Cryuff’s shields. One of their biggest wins in history came when they defeated Feyenoord in 2010, winning 10-0.

Championships Won

Like the other two in the top three, the team has won many championships since it became a professional team. They’ve been dominating the league on many occasions and have continued to serve as one of the best teams in the league. We can see that they are a solid force and would remain a top team in the championship.

They even hold the record for the most Johan Cryuff Shield wins in the league, while they come second for the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup titles. Aside from the major European and domestic championships, PSV also has some minor championships they’ve won throughout their history to bolster their trophy cabinet.

Historical Events

Their most historical moment came in the 1987-88 season under Guus Hiddink when they won the UEFA Champions League, or as it was called at the time, European Cup. They were a dominant force that season as they saw off all the teams in the competition and became the second Dutch team to lift the title.

Aside from that, another top historical event was when they won the Eredivisie in the 1928-29 season. The team remained on the top for many years and continued competing against the other top two teams for the title. And over the years, they’ve had a substantial amount of domestic trophies to add to their collection.

Championship Won by PSV Eindhoven

The team has won many championships since playing professionally, including primary and minor trophies. They are one of the Dutch division’s most decorated teams and continue looking for more trophies to add to their trophy cabinet. So, we expect them to add more to the list with time.

  • Eredivisie
  • KNVB Cup
  • Johan Cruyff Shield
  • European Cup/UEFA Champions League
  • UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup
  • Korea Cup
  • Russian Railways Cup

FAQs

The PSV roster is filled with players in their peak years. The team maintains a group mostly in their 20s, ensuring that they will get the best performance from the team. However, you’ll also see players below 20 and above 29 in the group to ensure that PSV betting remains high with a mix of experience and youthful flair.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is known for his attacking style of play. He was a top player who loved to score goals and help his team outwit opponents’ defenders. Therefore, we are not surprised that he has gone for a more attacking formation with a lineup that can handle the heat of pushing the defensive line. He also has an experienced goalkeeper organizing the defense.
