The Los Angeles Dodgers will welcome the Texas Rangers to Dodger Stadium for the first of a three-game series in the middle of the week.
The Dodgers have won six of their last ten games and currently lead the NL West by eight games. On the other hand, the former World Series champions, Texas Rangers, are just 31-34 this year. While the Rangers are getting reinforcements on the mound soon, the offense has been extremely quiet and won’t get any help until at least the Trade Deadline.
Yet, Texas is just five MLB games out of first place in a weak AL West.
The Rangers will throw Dane Dunning to start the series. He’s succeeded against righties but has allowed a .302 ISO and wOBA of .370 to his first 100 lefties this season. Dunning will duel it out against lefty James Paxton of the Dodgers.
While Paxton is 5-1, he still has a 4.19 ERA with just 33 strikeouts against his first 232 batters. Paxton has been awful against righties, allowing more walks than strikeouts this year.

Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview
The Texas Offense Is More Concerning Against Righties
The Texas Rangers look abysmal at the plate. But it’s been worse against right-handed pitching. For example, the projected lineup against righties has hit a .091 ISO and wOBA of .252 with just 6.1% of walks in the last 30 days.
But against lefties, the projected lineup has more power. Marcus Semien has hit a .333 ISO, Josh Smith has nailed a .192 ISO, and Adolis Garcia has hit a .250 ISO against lefties. Even Wyatt Langford and Jonah Heim have added a solid ISO power number against lefties over the last 30 days.
This is notable since the Rangers face lefty James Paxton to begin the series. Paxton has been awful against right-handed hitting. Therefore, Semien, Garcia, Langford, and Heim have a real advantage.
Los Angeles Is Still Stacked
The Los Angeles Dodgers still have one of the best rosters in the MLB. They have a starting lineup with Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman. Beyond that, the Dodgers have six batters hitting an ISO of at least .171 and wOBA of .318 against righties.
The lefties especially have an edge over Dane Dunning, who has struggled immensely against lefties throughout the season.
Starting Pitchers
Dane Dunning (Rangers)
- He’s a right-handed pitcher with a 4.09 ERA on the season.
- He’s struck out 26.9% of batters this season.
- He’s also allowed a 1.18 WHIP and has given up 36.7% of fly balls to lefties this year.
James Paxton (Dodgers)
- He’s a lefty who has walked 14.7% of the time that righties have faced this season.
- He’s only struck out 13.1% of righties.
- Paxton only has one loss this season, but his ERA is still above 4.00.

Final Thoughts
At this time, Corey Seager is still listed as day-to-day. But leaving him out of the lineup one more day wouldn’t hurt the Dodgers. After all, Seager is a lefty, who would probably struggle against Paxton, who is also a lefty.
Still, the Rangers have five bats that have hit consistent power against lefties over the last 30 days. If the Rangers can be patient at the plate and get solid hitting counts, the offense should seriously come alive against Paxton in Dodger Stadium.
Paxton has allowed a .176 ISO and wOBA of .350, with nearly 30% of fly balls and only 38.7% of ground balls induced to righties. However, he’s held lefties to no extra-base hits the entire year and has only walked lefties 4.9% of the time.
On the other hand, Dane Dunning will get the ball for the Rangers. He’s allowed a .302 ISO and wOBA of .370 to lefties this season. The numbers have been bad due to his high fly ball rate and low ground ball rate against lefties this season.
He surely doesn’t have a good matchup against lefties like Ohtani and Freeman, who have torched righties to begin the season. Plus, Dunning has allowed 10.8% of walks and an above-average rate of walks to both sides of the plate this year.
That said, we’ll forgo the MLB moneyline picks today, and our best MLB pick today will be the over 9 (-105).
